On 17 June 2025, EUPAVE hosted a webinar focusing on pavement repairs using rapid-hardening concrete. The event attracted around 60 participants from across the world.
Originally planned with two guest speakers, the programme was slightly adjusted following the cancellation of Mr. Alvin John (Premcrete, UK) due to health issues. EUPAVE’s Technical Director, Luc Rens, stepped in to present Belgium’s experience with traditional rapid-hardening concrete techniques, followed by a case study from Tim Alte-Teigeler, Head of R&D at OAT (Germany).
Luc Rens explained how full-depth concrete pavement repairs in Belgium are typically carried out using conventional materials, enabling reopening to traffic within 36 to 72 hours. His presentation covered national specifications, mix design, site organisation, and lessons learned from over 20 years of practice.
Tim Alte-Teigeler shared Germany’s ultra-fast repair approach, which allows reopening in just 4–5 hours. His case study on an emergency motorway repair demonstrated how careful planning, certified materials, and on-site mixing can restore concrete pavements within a single night shift.
Both speakers emphasised the importance of using concrete for concrete repairs, avoiding long-term reliance on temporary asphalt patches, which can lead to further damage.
The webinar concluded with a lively Q&A session.
