Great interest for EUPAVE’s webinar on low-carbon & circular concrete!

On Wednesday 23rd June 2021 EUPAVE held a technical webinar entitled “Towards a low-carbon & circular concrete”. The discussion focused on new cement types, alternatives binders and aggregate substitution by recycled materials and by-products. The webinar was attended by around 90 participants from more than 25 countries. 

Mr. Luc Rens, Managing-Director of EUPAVE, opened the event by welcoming the participants and presentingEUPAVE and its activities. He also stressed the importance of the chosen topics in the light of Europe’s Green Deal.

Mr. Edwin Vermeulen, Director of Cement&Beton Centrum started by describing the issue of availability of raw materials. Afterwards, he presented several special cement types and alternative binders to achieve significant CO2 reduction.

The second presentation was given by Mr. Bram Dooms, Assistant Head of Laboratory, Laboratory “Concrete Technology” at the Belgian Building Research Institute. Mr. Dooms focused on the use of recycled concrete aggregate and other recycled materials in concrete. His findings were based upon the Belgian research project Circular.Concrete.

Both presentations were followed by a Q&A.
